For Team Foxcatcher director Jon Greenhalgh collaborated with Nancy Schultz, the widow of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, whose senseless murder is the central narrative within the film. The movie chronicles the harrowing downward spiral of eccentric billionaire turned murderer John E. du Pont, told by the tight-knit community of wrestlers that lost a friend, a mentor, and one of the most beloved figures in the history of their sport.
Team Foxcatcher was edited by Emmy winner Richard Hankin (The Jinx) and premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. In 2017, the film was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Historical Documentary category. Team Foxcatcher was acquired by Lisa Nishimura as a Netflix Original and is currently streaming on the service.
"The sight of Du Pont, is unavoidably unnerving, though more distressing still is Team Foxcatcher’s coda, in which it’s revealed that — for some, ignoring one’s conscience and better judgment is a price worth paying in order to achieve a coveted dream."
